What is Homeopathy anyway?!

Many of my friends and family had no idea what homeopathy is (or isn’t) when we began treatments for Kaiden in 2003. I didn’t even know what it was at the time! Now they are all using remedies to treat themselves and their children. Homeopathy has quickly become the number one alternative medicine in the United States.
Based on a scientific system of unchanging principles and proven remedies, classical homeopathy is a safe, effective treatment when used appropriately. It works on the principle of “like cures like” meaning a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person, when used in its diluted, energetic form, can cure those same symptoms.
Homeopathic remedies are prepared according to FDA guidelines using highly diluted materials of plant, mineral, or animal (usually milk) origins. The remedies are systematically diluted and potentized (converted to energy) creating a non-toxic, safe medicine for people of all ages as well as animals.
Homeopathy addresses the body in a holistic manner, meaning it takes into account all symptoms, mental and physical, as it addresses the body’s core weaknesses and obstacles to health. The remedy stimulates the body’s own immune system to respond and heal itself by strengthening the body’s overall constitution.
While remedies are available in most healthfood stores for under $8, it is not advisable to try to treat chronic issues on your own. Acute issues such as colds, ear infections, stomach bugs, influenza, bruises, etc. are a great place to start treating yourself and your family. There are many great self help books available to assist you in choosing a remedy. However, if you are under the care of a homeopath for a chronic issue, it is not a good idea to treat yourself without consulting with your homeopath first.
Contrary to the mass of incorrect information on the web, there are many scientific studies supporting homeopathy works and is not a placebo effect. Homeopathy works on babies and animals, two groups difficult to treat with a placebo! Homeopathy is not herbs or supplements. It is not just any alternative medicine and it is not “new age.” Classical homeopathy is its own system of medicine using one remedy at a time.
The goal of homeopathy is to restore true health so that the remedy can be discontinued. Unlike allopathic medicine, the correct remedy (called the simillimum) cures the underlying issue (without side effects) so a lifetime of medication is not necessary.
Homeopathy is a medicine whose time has come. I’m so honored to be a part of it in this exciting time in its history.

  1. Hi Erica, I’m so glad to hear your enthusiasm for homeopathy! I saw your photo journal of how you treated your precious little girl’s eye using a potentized remedy, and I have to thank you for posting that wonderful account.

There is really much more to the system that Dr. Hahnemann developed, than homeopathy alone. Homeopathy is one very small part of the complete medical system that he called Heilkunst.

There is an excellent home-study certificate course, an 80-hour introduction to Heilkunst, given by the Hahnemann College for Heilkunst. It equips people to treat for most acute, first-aid situations. It’s great for parents, day care providers, etc, and anyone who would like a fascinating introductory course in Dr. Hahnemann’s brilliant medical system.

I took the course, which whet my appetite for more, so I then enrolled in the full 4-year diploma program.

I have a blurb about the course on my website here: http://preview.tinyurl.com/23rnmh

You might also be interested in some articles I have there on Heilkunst. Some good introductory articles are under Links, in the Heilkunst section there.

Many of the assumptions that classical homeopathy has made, are actually not what Dr. Hahnemann taught, so I would encourage you to look into this to gain more understanding of the basic principles.

The study of Heilkunst has enriched my life beyond words, and I’m always thrilled to share with others who feel drawn to this field of study.

    All the best,
